HISTORY
Season
14 was the ROTW Wing’s Fifth Full Season as a Wing.
In
the League Season 14 saw Defending Premiership Champions Qingdao Zhongneng
have a titanic struggle with their arch rivals River Plate, and Premiership
New boys Okayama FC, in their 2nd stint in the Premiership. Okayama FC led the way for most of the
season, and it was only in the last week of the season, that defending
champions Qingdao Zhongneng managed to get their noses in front and steal
victory from a very good Okayama FC side.
DC
United managed to get their 3rd promotion in as many seasons by
sneaking in front towards the late stages of the season, and managed to get
the Division 1 title. Club America
had set the early pace, but fell away towards the middle of the season, but
came back strongly to grab second place and that important promotion place
to the Premiership.
Chicago
Fire lost their long term manager early in the season, but found a
committed manager that once they got in front, they were hard to stop, and
they stayed in front to gain the 2nd Division title, and the
promotion place to Division 1.
Santos FC were on fire early in the season, but it was the exhausted
efforts of Melbourne Victory that kept pace with them, until Santos FC form
fell away, and Melbourne took charge for that second promotion place, and
managed to stay there.
SC
Corinthians finally found the form that they were looking for when they won
the Inter Wing Cup in Season 13, they took that form into Season 14 and
although they couldn’t make it past the group stages of the Inter Wing Cup,
they were far too strong for Division 3, and were gone by at least the half
way stage. Following them were
Catolica, who were in awesome form, and looked like stay pace with SC
Corinthians, until a mid season slump made them fall from what could have been. It was new girl Corrina who took Kaizer
Chiefs from losing 6 league games in a row and being last at the half way
point of the season, to turning it all around and storming home with 7
wins, and 1 draw to be unbeaten after 8 games, and not only coming from
behind, but also grabbing that all important second promotion place, to
proudly go into the 2nd Division for Season 15.
Qingdao
Zhongneng made the double for the second time in two season by winning the
ROTW Wing Knockout Cup, and the Premiership.
